I don’t know about you but as a busy wife and mom who is always on the go, I am constantly looking for grab-n-go snacks. I have a list of my tried-and-true favorites, which I plan to post for future blogs and why they made it to my list. But recently, I added a new protein bar to my bag, the RX Bar.
FTC Disclosure: RX Bars provided free samples for blog review, but all opinions are my own and this company is awesome!
What do they have to offer?
Man oh man, I do love the flavor behind these bad boys. To me, protein bars can either be a hit or a total flop. The RX bars comes in numerous flavors such as chocolate sea salt, peanut butter chocolate, mint chocolate, chocolate coconut, chocolate chip, apple cinnamon, maple sea salt, coffee chocolate, blueberry, and mixed berry. In addition to carrying some tantalizing flavors for adults, RX bars have added a children’s variety which includes: chocolate chip, apple cinnamon raisin, and berry blast.
I was able to sample the variety pack and would have to say it is the way to go when trying out this product! Gives you a chance to find your own flavor for the day.
Let’s talk taste and texture.
Protein bars are either a hit or total flop in this area.
Flavor can be good but texture not so much. Texture good, taste is something to be improved. I would have to say the RX Bar hit a home-run for flavor and texture. Each bar provided in the sample pack had its own unique taste. I found myself carrying numerous bars in my purse and car because I wanted to be ready for the cravings! My all time favorites would have to be the blueberry and peanut butter chocolate. Each bringing a very different taste, but both with just the right amount of sweetness.
Texture was not grainy nor did you feel as if you had to chew for days to swallow the bite. Nothing drives me crazier than having to chew chew chew and feeling like a cow going to town. A few small chews and down with the flavorful bite!
To add, I had to constantly tell my husband he could not eat two at a time because I was saving them for reviews. I also let my toddler snack on a bar in the car… “mommy I want MORE cookie.” To me, if a toddler is calling it a cookie, it must have a decent flavor and texture!
Let’s talk ingredients and nutrition.
RX Bar really get it right in this area. I totally love how they put it all on the FRONT of the label. Normally I tell my clients if it is on the front of the label it is a lie and they are just trying to sell it to you. In this case, not so much. They are seriously just telling you what’s inside. Wonder if it has nuts? Look on the front label. It is there. HA! Easy peasy.
Since blueberry is my “jam” I will use it as an example. On the front of the label you can note it contains 3 egg whites, 6 almonds, 4 cashews, 2 dates, and their nice little addition of No B.S. Turn it over and the ingredient list is there to reflect what you just read, minus the B.S. comment. The bars are also gluten free, soy free, and dairy free, which is fabulous if you find yourself facing allergies and intolerances.
Nutritionally speaking, they are a pretty fantastic snack as well. In the sample pack the average nutrition facts on one bar was 210 calories, 7grams fat with 6grams of that being the healthy fats, 22-24grams of carbohydrates, 12grams of protein and 5grams of fiber. For a protein bar to go above just mass amounts of protein to include fiber and healthy fats is pretty impressive. What you may not notice about most of your protein packed bars is the excess amount of unhealthy fats and sodium. Oh yes, I did not mention sodium… since RX Bars do not add a bunch of extras the sodium is 115milligrams. This is very low for a snack even on the strictest of sodium counts.
All in all, I would have to say these bars received an A+ for nutrition and ingredients!
Let’s talk price point.
Upon reviewing the site store and various competitors, these bars fall into average pricing for quality protein bars. Yes you can definitely find cheaper, but do not expect the same type nutrition facts and ingredients!
I was very impressed with the RX Bar. I plan to add it to my stash of tried-and-true favorite snacks. I am always on the hunt for new products which are not only approved by me, but also my family. I would also like to try out the children’s variety pack in the near future for my tiny tot. Knowing the ingredients is important for this momma and I will definitely be investing in his snack options.
