Background and Just Because
Lydia’s desire to pursue nutrition started at a very young age as she watched her father struggle with cardiovascular disease. When the whole family had to revamp their way of eating and thinking after her dad’s first heart surgery, she decided more people needed to learn about healthy choices. Her education included a Bachelor and Master degree from the University of Central Arkansas, where she also completed her dietetic internship. After completion of her program, she found herself in Heber Springs, Arkansas. She decided to pursue her CDE (certified diabetes educator), as diabetes continued to emerge and cause struggles in her clients’ lives. She has worked in many areas of nutrition, from clinical to community to running a Diabetes Self-Management Program.
After the birth of her first son, she decided to work outside of the home full-time was not where this season was leading her family. From the desire to be an ever-present mother, Sartain Nutrition, Your Local Dietitian was formed. As the online aspect of her consulting business continued to gain popularity she turned her focus away from a traditional desk and office setting. Her favorite aspects of being a dietitian include being able to help someone who is totally lost and confused after a new diagnosis, simplifying healthy for folks who have yo-yo dieted their entire lives with little success, helping busy families fit healthy into their schedule and navigation nutrition with each unique client.
